Biography

PATJE takes his inspiration daily from images in his mind. Influenced by the growth of singer songwriters from all kinds of genre, he builds his own style from soul, funk and Brazilian rhythms.

He was raised between Marseille, Barcelona and Geneva. His very first experience in entertainment was theater thanks to his brother.

After his high school diploma he did his Bachelors in America to improve his language skills. At that time his friends gave him the nickname PATJE (little Pat).

Returning back to Europe, he worked in advertising and became the editor of a magazine. When he left this multinational firm and moved to Barcelona, Spain, in order to study at university, music and his love for entertainment came back into his life...

He decided to pursue this growing passion in Los Angeles. He discovered facets of himself and started growing and gathering popularity in this environment.

In 2002 he started playing with his band in many clubs around Los Angeles and released his first single. On stage he started singing in French, English and Spanish.

He began a new journey with his friend Ioannis; with him he played between Bora Bora and Paris. It was with Ioannis that he was the opening act for Jeanne Mas. This show took place at the Trianon in Paris.

2008 enabled him to prepare a new project. Today he is launching Pasaporte, his new album; available Autumn 2009.

Ukulele at twilight

“Ukulele at twilight” by Miles Bainbridge This is an improvised piece, inspired by a friend and fellow musician, who after hearing my Ukulele with a low G tuning, commented that it sounded like a Venezuelan Cuatro. While I don’t own a Cuatro, I really enjoy Venezuelan music, so I tried to pick up some of the techniques and strumming patterns associated with it. Not many people have seen me play the Ukulele, so I’m hoping some of my friends enjoy this. I went to high school on Maui, and took Ukulele lessons there. The instrument is an inexpensive Lanikai 4-string Tenor Spruce & Mahogany model with Aquila Low-G Nylgut strings. Recorded in my living room with a simple one-mic setup, directly into iMovie with my iSight. Recorded 5/5/2011….

El negro josé (played by daniel padrón)

El negro josé (played by daniel padrón)

This piece was recorded and composed by Aldemaro Romero y Su Onda Nueva. Aldemaro Romero did some innovative things with Onda Nueva, which included experimenting with the 3/4 meter that is typical of much of Venezuelan music. When I was a kid, I used to pick out recordings by ear, and I picked out my recording of this. But I never felt I could begin to play it well until now. Of course I’m rarely satisfied with my playing, but I’ve learned to enjoy my successes. The piece of course is built on the same chord progression throughout the whole piece. I was thinking about how I could build an improvisation with this chord progression, especially considering that this is what Romero did (on piano). Since I enjoy going in and out of keys, I came up with a couple of transition chord progressions, and I liked the effect. The effect was to turn the improvisation up a notch. Then I wanted a chance to take the improvisation to another section, which I did using two pedal tones. Of course when I brought it back to Bb major, that of course meant I had to end the improvisation and finish performing the piece. I find that having goals adds excitement to improvising. Not only do you have to create something, but you have to think about how to taylor your creating to toward your goals. While it may be limiting, the challenge of creating in this nature offers an exciting alternative to simply playing over chord progressions. Enjoy!…
